Menstruation & Menopausal Hormonal Imbalance

 

We suffer during our monthly cycle from symptoms such as Pre-Menstrual Tension, bloating, sore/swollen breasts, cramps, lower back pain etc or 'feel' so emotional, tearful or angry and aggressive for no real reason we, and others, tend to brush this away with 'oh its just the time of the month' or 'your just feeling hormonal' and somehow we push the symptoms/reactions to one side (finally once they subside) as if the are 'normal'....!!


Yet, the Chinese believe and recognise such symptoms to be imbalances within the well being and order if you like of the body, and seek to ire-balance these.  

So why have we become so complacent about them?  Is it that we feel nothing can be done?  Its just our lot?  Our misfortune?  The way our body works?.... and, perhaps it isn't imbalances in our bodies as such (suggesting that the body has created them), but the imbalance caused by the way we treat it, feed it, use it, work it, push it, break it and frankly abuse it!!


So what is the answer?  


Well I firmly believe that firstly we should take responsibility and have a good look at how we treat out body and how this can impact on our Endocrine System and ultimately our hormonal balance and the well being of our monthly cycle!
Our Endocrine System is complex.  It is made up of Glands that release Hormones on demand for various functions or purposes.... our overall health and well being or quality of our monthly cycle depend upon the quality of the regulation, in other words, the body may produce to much hormone, too little, too early or too late or perhaps sometimes, not at all !! causing imbalance...


I would suggest that we make 3 changes...
Firstly, and assuming that there are no other underlying problems, I would do a little light research or ask the experts... there are some great books all about hormones, fertility, women's health and general well being - just email me if you would like a book list.... dip in and have a read about cycles, fibroids, irregular periods, cramps, bloating, hydration etc.


Secondly, I would have a look at your lifestyle.... we all know this one right?? yes, but we don't always put it into practice do we? myself included!!.. so we need some regular exercise and healthy food to boost our immune system, massage our internal organs and to generally get everything shifting and flowing around the body.  We should reduce or cut out the toxins!! and the biggies here are caffeine, alcohol, sugar, processed foods, salt & chemicals!!  These are all known to have impact on our Endocrine system ladies!!

and Thirdly, a little bit of holistic therapy goes a long way!!... you know I was going to say that didn't you?? Well it is true, therapy that supports the hormonal system can really make a difference, I know there are some of you out there nodding as you are my lovely regular clients - why, because you know that it can make a difference to your monthly cycle!
